Drunk Driving Charges Dropped…17 Years Later

Crown prosecutors in a Nova Scotia provincial court have withdrawn three drinking and driving charges, 17 years after they were sworn. The unusual case turned up last Monday during morning arraignments in New Glasgow.

The offenses allegedly took place November 13th, 1992, against an 18-year-old Limerock man. He was charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, and negligent operation of a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs resulting in the injury of another person.

The Crown attorney says he had no original file, just copies, and was acting on directions to withdraw the charges.
