Teen Charged with Assault After Police Chase

Ottawa- A 19-year old has been charged after a reported assault ended with a police chase and car crash in Blackburn Hamlet on Thursday, May 28th, 2009.

Police responded to a report about an assault at around 10:25 p.m. A 55-year-old man had been taken to hospital with serious injuries. He has since been released.

After arriving at the home, police were informed that the suspect had left in a white Pontiac.

Police pursued the vehicle and the driver eventually lost control. The car jumped the curb and crashed into another vehicle and a garage.

The 19-year-old driver was taken to hospital and released the next day.

The driver and the assault victim knew each other, however police have not revealed the nature of their relationship.

The driver had been charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of taking a motor vehicle without consent. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 15th.

Man Faces Multiple Charges After Police Chase

A 30-year-old St. Catharines man is facing several charges after a police chase through the city on March 20th resulted in around $15,000 in damages.

Niagara Regional Police say a pickup truck driver was driving erratically and refused to stop for police. The man continued driving through the city, eventually hitting a taxi cab and another vehicle.

The driver then still tried to escape the police, who blocked his path using several police cruisers.

Police were eventually forced to break the driver’s side window to force the man out of the vehicle.

Four vehicles were damaged during the incident, including two police cruisers.

A 36-year-old was treated with minor injuries as a result of the chase.

The driver is facing multiple charges, including: flight from police, failing to stop at an accident scene, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and impaired driving.
